EWP Mechanical Repairs in Brisbane

Brisbane's construction pipeline — Cross River Rail, the Olympic venue works and the ongoing industrial expansion through the western corridor — keeps its access fleet under sustained load. Subtropical UV degrades protective coatings on structural steelwork faster than in a temperate climate, which lets moisture and the region's summer storm moisture reach weld toes and joint surfaces. Fasteners and pins on machines that spend long stints on outdoor sites can corrode at their bearing surfaces while appearing clean from the outside, and slew rings on heavily loaded truck-mounts accumulate wear when machines aren't coming off hire for routine attention.

Across Brisbane, EWP Australia assesses and repairs structural and mechanical faults — identifying whether an indication at a weld is cosmetic or structural, carrying out rectification to the relevant standard, and replacing worn pins, bushes and slew components when measurement shows they're out of tolerance. Drive system issues on self-propelled platforms are diagnosed and overhauled, and all structural work is followed by a post-repair load test and documentation that closes out the defect on paper.

Mechanical Repairs in Brisbane — Common Questions

We have a boom section that's been visually checked but an inspector wants NDT — what does that mean for the repair?

NDT (crack testing) locates indications that a visual check can miss — subsurface cracks at weld toes being the main one. If NDT finds an indication, it shapes the repair scope: a surface crack is a different repair to a through-thickness one. We carry out the repair based on what the NDT actually shows, not a worst-case assumption.

A pin on our articulated boom has started making noise — can it be replaced without taking the machine out of service for long?

Pin replacement is a targeted repair, not a rebuild. We disassemble the joint, measure the pin and bore, replace the pin and bush set, reassemble and check play, then function test the articulation. The machine is generally out for the duration of the repair and testing only.
