EWP Mechanical Repairs in Perth

Perth's access equipment faces a mechanical wear pattern that is distinct from eastern capitals. Fine sand from the sandy soils across the metro fringe and the resource-sector sites works into slew rings, pivot bores and drive components in a way that acts like a slow-acting grinding compound — accelerating wear on surfaces that would last far longer in a clean-site environment. Machines heading north or into the Goldfields spend extended periods away from any workshop, and a slew ring that was borderline at departure becomes a repair item when it returns. The dry heat also drives out lubrication from joints between services, compounding the abrasive wear.

For Perth and the broader WA metro area, EWP Australia handles structural and mechanical repair work — slew rings inspected, adjusted and replaced when wear has put them outside tolerance, weld cracks in booms and chassis assessed and repaired to the applicable standard, pins and bushes measured and replaced in the affected articulation points, and drive systems stripped and overhauled where dust and heat have taken their toll. Post-repair load testing is standard for any structural work, and documentation records what was found, what was done and what was tested.

Mechanical Repairs in Perth — Common Questions

We're sending a boom north for a resource-sector job — what structural items should be checked before it leaves?

A pre-mobilisation structural check covers slew ring play and lubrication, the condition of all boom-to-boom and boom-to-turntable pins, weld condition on structural sections, and the drive system — the components that are hardest to fix away from a workshop if they go during the job. We carry out the check and tell you what needs attention before departure.

Sand seems to be getting past our slew ring seals — is that a seal replacement or a full ring replacement?

It depends on how far wear has progressed. We measure the ring's backlash and check the seal condition: if the ring is still within tolerance and only the seals have failed, we reseal; if the ring itself has worn, we replace it — resealing a worn ring doesn't fix the underlying problem.
